The Conehead Katydids

Singing day and night from brushy woods, marshes and fields, these silly-looking coneheaded insects sing very loud songs. No doubt you have probably heard one of these species singing at night as you drive down a country road with your car window open. If you try to catch them they will drop head first into the thick grass. They will then remain motionless or scurry away unseen. They are also excellent flyers.
