The Songs of Insects: Meet the Authors

Lang Elliott

Lang has been recording the sounds of nature since the late 1980's and is the owner of Nature Sound Studio located in Ithaca, New York. Lang has published numerous books, audio CDs and cassette tapes sharing the wonders of the world of nature sounds. Many of these are listed on the support site for his new bird book, The Songs of Wild Birds.

Lang's extensive collection sound recordings is available for commercial projects, and his recordings have been used in hundreds of museum and nature center exhibits, movies, and products featuring the sounds of nature.

Upon the completion of The Songs of Insects, Lang is now working hard on a new book, The Frogs and Toads of North America, to be published in the autumn of 2008 by Houghton Mifflin Company.

Wil Hershberger

Wil Hershberger has been an avid naturalist most of his life. His photography has become an extension of this passion. He has been president of the Potomac Valley Audubon Society and the Frederick chapter of the Maryland Ornithological Society. He is the Vice President of the Shenandoah Photographic Society and a co-founder of the Potomac Valley Nature Photographers. He is a member of the American Ornithologists Union, the Society of Field Ornithologists, the North American Nature Photographers Association (NANPA), and the North American PhotoShop Professionals. He is a moderator of the Flora and Macro Forum on the NatureScapes.net online photography community since it’s inception.

Wil’s publications include: Calendars by Gladstone Media, Books by Stackpole, Oasis Magazine of Italy, Nature Photographers Magazine, and of course “The Songs of Insects” published by Houghton-Mifflin Co. Wil has recently been awarded the honor of “Highly Commended” for one of his insect photos by the BBC Wildlife Magazine in the 2006 Photographer of the Year competition.

Wil and his wife Donna are the owners and operators of Nature Images and Sounds, LLC located in West Virginia.
